York Guildhall Orchestra
As York’s principal symphony orchestra, we are delighted to begin our 43rd concert season on Saturday 14th October. We will welcome back an old friend in David Greed, who will play the ever-popular violin concerto of Mendelssohn. It's been a while since we played any of Elgar's symphonies, so we shall rectify this with a performance of his first – dedicated to Hans Richter and first performed to high critical acclaim by Richter and the Halle Orchestra in 1908. To start proceedings, we will perform one of Dvorák 's many concert overtures.
Programme:
- Dvorák - Concert Overture 'In Nature's Realm'
- Mendelssohn - Violin Concerto in E minor
- Elgar - Symphony No.1
Violin soloist – David Greed
Conductor – Simon Wright
Leader – Fiona Love
