York Guildhall Orchestra
Blackford – Concert Overture (World Premiére)
Wagner – Lohengrin, Prelude to Act 1
Elgar – Sea Pictures (soloist Louise Winter)
Poulenc – Suite Les Biches
Elgar – Pomp & Circumstance March No.1
Trad arr. Henry Wood – Fantasia on British Sea Songs
Arne arr. Malcolm Sargent – Rule Britannia
Parry arr. Elgar – Jerusalem
In our final concert of the season, we shall present a ‘Proms’ style event with lots of the kind of music one would expect, including the Fantasia on British Sea Songs arranged by Sir Henry Wood, Pomp and Circumstance, Jerusalem and Rule Britannia. The first half will be a little more serious and feature the wonderful mezzo Louise Winter in Elgar’s emotional ‘Sea Pictures’ – an setting of words by various English poets.
Local composer Dick Blackford is writing a new piece for the orchestra which we will perform alongside some of Wagner’s sublime music from Lohengrin and Poulenc’s spiky music to the ballet ‘Les Biches’.
And remember to bring your union flags for the second half
